Classroom Policy
Make-up and Late Work Policies
1. On days gone from class for an excused absence (illness, funeral, etc.) you will get one school day for each school day missed. Pre-arranged absences (vacations, field trips, performances etc.) you will need to see me in advance of the absence to determine when your work is due. You may need to turn in work or take quiz/test before you go. This is my call. (You have one week to make up any late work. However, you do lose points for not turning it in on time.)
2. Major assignments/projects will be accepted late and penalized 10% each day we are in school. If they are turned in after a holiday or vacation break, they will be worth 50%. Also, I will not accept any late work. However, I do give plenty of time to do assignments.
3. If you are gone the day of a quiz or test, be prepared to take the make-up the next class we meet. I reserve the right to have you take it then.
4. Students with an unexcused absence the day an assignment is due will receive a zero on that assignment. Any work, including quizzes/tests or presentations done in class on the day of an unexcused absence will result in a zero.
5. If you find yourself falling behind and in danger of not passing the class, please see me to develop a plan to get work made up. Do not wait until the final week to ask.
General Information
The purpose of these guidelines is to establish the best learning environment possible. By following these few simple rules, the class will be a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
1. Students are expected to bring materials (book, planner, binder, and a pen or pencil) and be in or near your seat when the bell rings. No Backpacks or Coats in class!!
*Just walking through the doorway while the bell is ringing is not in or near your seat and will be considered tardy.
2. Detentions will be issued for the second unexcused tardy in any tri-mester. An additional tardy will result in an additional detention.
*Detentions are handled through me.
3. Cheating will be dealt with according to procedures in the student handbook. This can result in loss of credit on an assignment, detention, or suspension from school.
*Cheating includes: copying another student’s work or answers, plagiarizing from books or computers, and having advanced information about quiz and test questions.
4. Students are expected to participate in the learning process (discussions, simulations, lectures etc.).
*This cannot be done if you are playing calculator games, doing your makeup, looking at pictures, having a side conversation and/or writing notes to your friends, etc. If I see these things during class time, I will take the materials away from you and a detention may be issued.
5. Think before you speak.
*Absolutely no put-downs or offensive remarks will be tolerated. In such cases, administrative action will be taken.
6. Food and drink are not allowed.
*Only when we are having a party or approve by instructor ahead of time.
7. Bathrooms and drinking fountains are to be used before class.
*Six minutes passing time should be sufficient. If emergency situations develop, I will allow you to leave class…be sure to fill out your passbook.
8. When you are absent, you are responsible to find out what you missed. I will not remember to seek out everyone every time they are absent.
*Partner up with someone in class to get notes or handouts from. Otherwise you should find me before school, during my conference period, or during seminar the day you return. You can also check my web site or email me for assignment information.
9. On days that I am gone, you are expected to fully cooperate with guest teachers.
*I will ask guest teachers to use their judgment for classroom management issues.
10. Always remember that I am here to help you succeed!
